Check out Ashlyn Weight’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Weight.

Ashlyn, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
From fully designed mansions out of dollar store modeling clay (a young Joanna Gaines in the making) to paper mache doll outfits, my childhood was filled with endless hours making, creating, and working with my hands. However, it wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized creativity was engrained in me from a very young age.

This helped me realize that art and design were much more than a hobby. With the right training and experience, it could become a career. Nonetheless, a career you can wake up and feel excited about!

When I decided to go to Arizona State University for college, I entered the Visual Communication Design program scared and unsure. Would my work measure up? What if I fail? Oh my gosh, they want me to make THAT in Illustrator? The program was very competitive and included scores of talented artists of all backgrounds. In the end, that’s what I loved most about the program- diverse ideas and people coming together to do what they love most- design.

Upon graduation, I knew I wanted to help businesses of all shapes and sizes tell their story. Fast forward to today, I now run a small branding and design studio from my home, where I tell stories of people and businesses every day. No matter the industry, everyone deserves to tell their story, and I get the opportunity to be the strategy and voice behind taking businesses to the next level.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I believe when design meets strategy, and when wild, hair-brained ideas meet execution, you can create something beautiful, even life-changing.

Every day I work with startup companies, small business owners, and entrepreneurs around the world who are passionate about what they do and are ready to take the next step in bringing their vision to life. I specialize in brand strategy and creation, developing identities that take businesses to the next level.

For me, purposeful design has everything to do with telling my client’s story in the simplest, most effective way. When someone looks at something I create, I want their eyes to light up knowing that they have every tool they need to be successful. I not only want to show competence but confidence that no matter what their story is, I can help them tell it through my designs.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Artists face a lot of challenges, but I feel the most prevalent issue we face is vulnerability.

Each time I create a new brand or design a wedding invitation for a soon-to-be-bride, I want my client to love the work as much as I do. When creating artwork, it’s really easy to just throw something together, but when you take the time to understand and connect with the vision you’re bringing to life, you risk someone not liking it.

How do I stay motivated after receiving negative feedback on a project I spent weeks on? How can I provide the best experience for my client when sometimes I feel like I don’t measure up? How do I stand out in an industry that often feels saturated?

These emotions of risk and vulnerability run through my mind every day. The key is seeing these emotions for what they are and using them as fuel to keep going. When self-doubt creeps in, artists and designers need to move past these feelings and do what they love- deAsigning, making, and creating without any fear of judgment or criticism! As one of my favorite authors once said, “Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business.”

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
