Check out Araseli Alvarez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Araseli Alvarez.

Araseli, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Thinking back to after graduating high school and in need of a solid, fail proof career plan, I had aimed to obtain my license in cosmetology and then pursue a degree in law. If all else failed, I’d always have my license. Not having any idea of what laid ahead of me, I decided to immerse myself completely. The realization that I was curious more often than not made me feel like I was on the right path. I was eager to learn and perform. After graduating Artistic Beauty College, I had an opportunity to assist for a year while working towards gaining my own clientele. Being surrounded by other successful, seasoned stylist, I was able to utilize different techniques and approached every scenario with confidence. I’ve worked behind the chair for 12 years and attended continuous education. Since becoming a Kevin Murphy salon, I’ve found new opportunities that has always peaked my interest. Other opportunities have come and gone but it wasn’t till recently that I felt confident enough in myself or my product to pursue the next level in my career.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Everyday I create something different. My craft is not solely based on hair. I create change, inspiration, expression confidence, excitement. The list is endless. Every experience is unique and customized for each individual. In my profession, I believe taking the time to truly listen and understand the issue or desire is key point. In my opinion, being successful is having the ability to relate to the client, understand their hair language and creating a plan of action to achieve their desired hair goals. A haircut or color isn’t just a haircut and color, It’s a reflection of one’s personality. At the end of the day, my intent is for every client to walk out feeling self-love, care and confidence.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
When I meet a new assistant I can’t repeat myself enough to Trust the process and trust within themselves. Stay busy with the craft and experiment with your ideas so you are able to learn and progress. Stay curious!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
