Check out Andreas Viker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreas Viker.

Andreas, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Germany in a small town near Munich. I worked as a model and performer for various artists as a backup dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. When I was 18 years old, I joined the German Air Force and had the chance to travel to countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, Africa, France, and Turkey. To be away from the comfort of my home, family or home country has really expanded my horizon and I am very grateful that I was able to visit these countries and to meet so many different cultures. When I was presented the opportunity to live and work in the US for three years, I immediately said yes and moved to Phoenix in January 2014. I bought my first camera in 2014 to document my time in the US but didn’t really understand the settings, so I ended up returning it and was relying on my phone camera.

Throughout my time in the US, I was able to continue my work as a model and walked in the Phoenix and Scottsdale Fashion Week and I was named one of the three finalists for the annual model of the year competition in 2016. I met my wife at one of the events who, as a fashion journalist for her company Couture in the Suburbs, was always at the same events as me. She turned my world upside down in all the good ways and made me quit my job and now we’re happily married for two years in June with our beautiful little fur-baby Chloe (She is a Shitzhu).

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Mainly through modeling, I became so curious about the process behind the camera and how to create the final image I went to the camera shop again and gave it another try. I bought a Fujifilm XT10 with 18-55mm Kit lens and started watching every YouTube tutorial out there and took it everywhere with me to put it to use. It was always hard for me as a model to know what poses will work or what expression translates the clients’ message the best.

I had so much fun playing around and trying different things in photography, the possibilities are endless and I absolutely fell in love with creating images and now when I am on set modeling and look at the photographers’ setup I have a much better idea what we are trying to create. In order to do a single part of a whole process, you need to fully understand the entire process first in order for you to excel in your part, at least that is what I am telling myself and this has tremendously helped me over the past years.

I enjoyed Photography so much that I quickly realized that this is what I want to do. I sold my beloved motorcycle a 2016 Triumph Bonneville T120 in order to purchase the gear I would need to turn my passion into a career and since 2018 my wife and I operate our own digital marketing and production company, Viker Media LLC where we are helping businesses by providing marketing solutions and creating digital assets in form of photography, videography, or web graphics.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Challenges are endless but a big one I would say is probably separating yourself from others in order to stand out and attract your ideal client in a heavily saturated market.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
For the most part I keep my professional work separate from everything I have publicly displayed on social media. When a client reaches out or when I reach out to a client they will be provided with our online portfolio, a link to our most recent work. We will be having our work displayed on our upcoming website www.vikermedia.com and on Instagram @vikermedia

However, my private work can be found on instagram @Andreasviker or on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL74cdR_V4KyChAX6ybp9Wg
