Check out Alexxis Grant’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexxis Grant.

Alexxis, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up I despised having my picture taken. I was always the one covering my face or turning my back on the camera when friends and family came around singing, “Say Cheese!” Yet, despite being camera shy, I found I loved seeing the beautiful artwork that photography produced. The way a professional photographer was able to capture the beauty of the world and people around them blew my mind and moved my soul.

When I picked up my first camera, I knew my goal was to capture the beauty of the stories all around me. After mastering my camera settings, I asked a few friends to take a chance on me by letting me do a portrait session for them. I heard back from five friends that said yes. Just like that, I had my first five clients. Soon after I realized that my subjects were just as uncomfortable as I was with having their picture taken. That realization helped me understand that having our picture taken leaves us vulnerable. All of our insecurities are instantly on display for others to see. That was the moment I became truly passionate about my work.

Every person, couple, family, etc. that crosses my camera will walk away not only with wonderful photographs but with a joyous feeling because having your picture taken doesn’t have to be painful, in fact, it can be fun.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is unique to the person I’m photographing. Every session is designed to create an experience and tell a story. I let the moment create its self without putting pressure on creating the perfect pose. I want my clients to walk away feeling that they just created new memories and in that way, I am able to capture their personality with ease. I aim to inspire creative thinking, confidence, and a present mind.

I lean towards bright and true to life colors in my images. I live in the city, and therefore, my photos are often very artistic because they have the bustle of city life happening in the background.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Both! It has become both easier and harder for artists in the modern day. We have tools that save us time while producing higher quality work, but at the same time technology also makes things harder for an artist. So many of us, especially when we first start out get caught up in looking at another artist’s work online and either get discouraged or end up recreating the same look them. It is also harder to break through and truly get the word out there about our art.

I really think that Phoenix does a wonderful job helping artists thrive. I’m constantly amazed by the murals that I find, the festivals I attend, and all of the community that supports them. To help us thrive even more, I would recommend utilizing online platforms even more by posting the local art galleries, festivals, and even individuals more on community websites.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Soon I will be launching a new website at the link www.timelesspresentphotos.com
