Check out Adrianna Carochi’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianna Carochi.

Adrianna, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
A few years I ago, I found out I was allergic to gluten and dairy – not fun, guys.

Well, after discovering I had both gluten and dairy allergies, I struggled to find sweets or desserts that I could actually eat, let alone ones that actually tasted like dessert. I found so many people with this same issue and saw there was a real opportunity. But still, starting a part-time bakery was never in my plans.

That being said, I grew up baking with my grandmother. It was our way to spend time together. I remember the smell of cookies filled her home, and now I think of her whenever I smell freshly-baked cookies. Her love of baking is what sparked my interest, and finding a way to share this love with people with who can’t eat standard desserts has become my passion.

My grandfather also inspired my creativity and artistic drive; I wanted to be just like him. He was a wonderful artist, drawing and painting all kinds of things. I remember being four or five years old and waking up too early each morning to paint and drink coffee with him. This was our time.

My grandparents have since passed, and it wasn’t until then that I felt led to marry these two important pieces of who I am. I started small, making decorated sugar cookies for friends and family around the holidays, and it’s taken off from there. So, in 2018, The Baked Bee was born.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
What I love about small business owners is that we solve our own problems. Mine just happens to be a tasty one! It is ridiculously difficult to find gluten and dairy desserts, and I solved my own issue by combining two of my skills. The roots of my story stem from my childhood by learning how to bake with my grandmother and draw with my grandfather. Today, I make gluten and dairy free decorated sugar cookies.

I work a full-time job as a Financial Administrative Assistant and in any spare time I have, I’m baking, decorating and working out the details of my website. I’ve done custom orders for an array of different events: baby showers, bachelorette parties, employee appreciation days, birthdays, etc. These orders take anywhere from six hours to 24 hours working hours, starting from the designs I send to the customer, and finishing with a beautifully packaged box of cookies.

Creating the design for customers and taking the time to craft art onto a cookie with royal icing, has to be my favorite parts of this long process. It’s the very beginning and the very end. You watch the fruit of your labor grow and that has to be the most inspiring part of all – the result of your hard work and creativity. I hope others see that in themselves, that they can start by being inspired by others and end up inspired by what they created.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Keep going. Fight through the struggle, the pain, and the uncertainty. Sometimes, you find your inspiration when you stop searching for it, and it turns up in unlikely places. Just remember why you started.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I post all of my work on Instagram and Facebook, @TheBakedBee. Currently, I’m working on my website, www.thebakedbee.com, which I expect to have up by mid-October.
