Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Dewees.
Victoria, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was younger, I always had a passion for art. I loved painting (and still paint every now and then), and I grew up in a family where music always played a big part in our day to day lives. I didn’t used to take pictures or document many things, but one day a close family friend passed away, and I realized I had only one picture of us together. This broke my heart. After that, I started taking pictures of family and documenting the fun moments that I wanted to cherish forever. I wanted to dive deeper into my capabilities as a photographer, so I ended up taking a photography class at pvcc with the amazing Jerry Sieve. I learned so much in such a short amount of time and truly started to discover my talents as a photographer.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
When I’m taking pictures, I prefer them to be more candid and natural. I want to capture the raw moments of happiness, sadness, and anything in between. I’m very passionate about this aspect of my pictures which I think you can see in a lot of my work. I think that the natural beauty in things and moments can be truly spectacular.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
This is something that I would love to do more of myself! I’m always looking to work with amazing people and expand my knowledge. Humans are forever learning, who better to learn from than another artist!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have an Instagram and also a website. The website definitely has more material!
