Today we’d like to introduce you to Tru Barz The Lyricist.
Tru Barz, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, I was a quiet boy growing up on Ralph Ave. I was very spoiled but after my dad left, everything changed. My family moved to Kings Boro projects, and shortly after that we moved to Sheepshead Bay. At age 9, I started in the cadet core, which disciplined me a lot. In the cadet, core was where I was first introduced to music. One of the captains, Vaughn Armour, started a drum-line and later recruited me. We practiced every Tuesdays and Thursdays and I would always show up early. After a while, Brother Armour said that I was learning way to fast and that he wanted to teach me privately. My mom would pay him to practice with me every Saturday, and he would tell me to practice on a pillow. I practiced every day. I finally became the snare section leader when I turned 13, but I had some competition. A kid named Matthew started around the same time I did and had almost the same skill set as me. We put our skill to the test by joining the best marching band in Brooklyn, known as the Brooklyn Steppers. The drum-line was called Black Fire Percussion. In school, I started playing the trombone and the baritone. I just kept learning new musical instruments until I was eventually able to write my own music. Going into high school, I got accepted to the M.A.P Program at the Julliard Music School in Manhattan, NY. This is when I also fell in love with orchestral music. During this time, I wrote my own pieces for my recitals. I was even more advanced than some of my teachers. In high school, I meet a producer name, Eli. Ever since meeting and working with him, production and writing has been my life. I want to release tracks because music is what I love to do. I know I have talent. Everyone tells me I’m talented, but I’m very humble with it. Music is my life now, and I can’t do anything else. I have always dreamed of this. I want my dreams to come true now. It’s my time. A lot of people doubted me and still doubt me till this day, including family. But I want to show them that I’m worth something. I want to show people why I’ve been doing music most of my life, and why I stuck with it. I want to make everyone proud. I want to make everyone I lost proud. I don’t want to live under anyone’s shadow. I want to show the world who I am. I don’t have a specific fan base because I think every male and female of every age will enjoy my music. I’m very diverse. I can make any type of music for everyone to hear. I can bring soul and blues into hip-hop. I love all types of music. That’s why I know I can combine anything with anything. I’m a musician myself, so I listen for tone, correct pitch, and quality in a beat. I have many different musical influences. When I was a kid, I used to love watching drummers on YouTube and my most favorite was Max Roach. Miles Davis and John Coltrane are my favorite jazz musicians. One of my favorite producers is Ryan Leslie. Watching him make a beat amazes me. I think he is the best producer because he’s super creative and he plays instruments live, which is something I also want to try. Although I am inspired by him, I’m very different from him as well. I don’t try to be like anyone. I’m my own producer. Despite all the hard work that I put into my craft, every artist has haters, but that’s normal! And all this hard work got me where I am today!! I am so extremely pleased to announce that I am now sponsored by a label in the UK named monster montages! They have been making my career so much easier! Creating Instagram post for me, sending me beats to destroy for their fans on the other side of the country! I honestly can’t thank them enough! God sent them to me, Our relationship started with a simple Freestyle I did to their beat, called the song goat, and they were extremely impressed with the lyrics, production, and quality of the song!! All because I have my own studio here in Scottsdale Az! I record some of the best artists out here such as Hntr Jmz, Runitup Davis, Snw, Ambition the goddess, Spyda Wave, Myti, and so many more!!!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
The thing that makes me stand out from other artists is that I have a God-like sound in some of my music. I started sampling orchestral music, which is something I haven’t really heard from the industry today. I tend to stay away from sounding like other artists. I like to think outside the box and try new things that some producers haven’t tried. I love God-like sounds. I’m a big fan of Greek mythology. I can also sample jazz music, and I always change-up my style in music. My career goals are simple. I just want the world to hear my music and see how talented I am. That’s my main goal right now. I want to be able to provide my family, and I think making music is the best way to do that. I’ve been waiting a really long time for this moment, and now is my chance to make things happen. In 10 years, I see myself being one of the best producers in the music industry. I feel that my music will have a great impact on the world. I hope my fans and everyone that I work with know that all I wanna do is spread love to the world!! That is 1 of my main goals! As for the type of music I make, I want to be 1 of the most versatile artist/producers in the world. Ive mixed genres of music together, done east and west coast type songs, features with a variety of different artist. I create all my own artwork, always finding the best ways to represent myself!
