Art & Life with Tori MacDougall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori MacDougall.

Tori, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Arizona. Have been interested in taking photos since I was a kid! I was always that one girl who brought a disposable camera to school to take photos of my friend’s way before camera phones and selfies existed. I tend to live through my camera as I’ve been told but it’s just my way of life. I feel like god has given me his gift and I am thankful for it.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I did beauty in things others may not. I love to edit images and make them non-realistic works of art! When it comes to taking photos of people I tend to stay traditional with the final images. However, when it comes to non-human photographs I love to get creative and make interesting and creative pieces. When I get a specific idea…I go for it. No second guessing. Digital art is amazing and fun! I love when I get a client that is ok with me adding some visual effects to the overall image. However, simplicity is also beautiful.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I feel like being a photographer is the new “in”. People want to be their own boss and freelance. Which is cool! I feel like photographers are not taken as seriously by the pros who went to school for a photography degree. I respect those who went to school for it, however, it’s 2018 and people can simply pick up a camera and make their own art without a degree. There is no right and wrong in art. As long as your being true to your passion, why not make it a career?
