Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Olvera.
Tony, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Grew up in Phoenix in a rough area surrounded by gangs and violence. My escape from taking in part of what was going on around me was just to focus on my art and drawing. I’ve been doing artwork as long as I can remember so it’s always been second nature. Kinda fell into tattooing though. Was doing It unprofessionally on friends when I was younger and didn’t take It serious till I got my first tattoo around 98/99. I sought out an apprenticeship and finished It in 01 and been hustling and working hard at It ever since.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I do tattoos but I would say most my clients come to me for black and grey work. I do every style but that’s just what a lot of people request from me. I do have people who only come to me for color as well but not as many. I think when people get tattooed by me they get not only a long lasting memory but a permanent mark that will stay with them the rest of their life. People who have gotten tattooed by me know that I’m passionate about it.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I don’t know how to answer that because I wouldn’t say I know success yet. I’m still trying to be a better artist every day. Maybe to me some type of success is seeing people who are proud to wear what you’ve put on them.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can see my work on Instagram or the shop website. They can support it by getting tattooed haha
