Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahj Coney.
Tahj, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in two homes as a child and during that time I have seen a lot and been through a lot. I am the oldest of 14 siblings and that has played a big part in my growth as a man and a human being. I got into photography looking up to my cousin who was a great photographer and seeing his work inspired me to get into it and ever since I changed my major at Grand Canyon University, I have loved every creative thing I do and look forward to creating more.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I want my work to represent what I have gone through and what my vision of the world, happiness, family, love, etc., looks like. I want my work to feel more photography to feel my natural and pleasing. My inspiration is my family, race, culture. Living in a world where African Americans are constantly brought down, I want my work to bring us up and confident in who we are.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I believe artists’ role has definitely changed just because there are more freedom and acceptance of the work they showcase to the world. Many issues, especially nationally, have affected my art in some way because it sometimes can affect the way people perceive my art as well as changed the way I see myself which is not good but at the end of the day it is my work and I put all the effort and time to what I put out, not for the acceptance of man but of God and myself.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
