Art & Life with Sylvia Elaine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Elaine.

Sylvia, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I had grown up loving fashion and just enjoying putting together a great outfit! Two of my best friends, Haley and Cassie, kept telling me that I was really good at fashion and I should start an Instagram page that shows people that they can dress well and not spend a fortune. I buy most of my clothes from Target, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, etc. and that’s why they should do it. I honestly thought that they were just making fun of me and saying it to be nice! But a few years later they were still bothering me about it! So I started my page but only to get them to stop and here I am, almost two years later, and I love doing it! I model all my clothes and I really enjoy showing people that you don’t have to have all the money in to world to look presentable!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I guess you could say that my art is clothes and modeling. As I mentioned before, modeling the clothes is to show people that you don’t have to have all the name brand items to look just as good as the “it girl.” Everyone comes from different walks of life and can always be the possibility of meeting that one person that could change your life. First impressions are everything and that’s why a great outfit is so important. I don’t want people to think when they wake up that they are just putting on clothes to just get through another day but that those clothes portray who they are.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I would define success as when you as an individual have achieved what you wanted in life and are proud to have gotten there. I believe determination is a major quality that is essential to success. I have gone through times where I just didn’t want to do anything for my page and I felt like I wasn’t making a difference! But every so often I’ll get a message from someone or a comment on one of my pictures saying that they are so shocked that I got that outfit at a certain place and they’re glad that I pointed them to it! That makes me want to be even more determined and fully commit to what I started.
