Today we’d like to introduce you to Solh.
Solh, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Solh is made up of Jade Sun and Craig Price, and we met about a year ago through church and friends. Jade, an Arizona native, had for a long time been playing and writing music but never really found an outlet for it. Craig, a Nebraska native, had been a part of a few music groups throughout college, but moved to Arizona in the last year to be with his wife.
Essentially, we were both looking for a way to play our music that felt natural to us, and after a whirlwind of writing, we got together for the first time to see if our styles could blend. After running through our first song, it was pretty clear that our voices and music taste blended super well, and we were excited to keep going!
After practicing a few times, we were able to play a good amount of coffee shops, and it was fun being able to hear what people liked about our music, and how we could improve. Since October, we’ve been able to play not only coffee shops, but restaurants, various shows, and a night at Tempe Center for the Arts. Our friend graciously helped record an EP that we plan to release this summer and look forward to being able to bring our music to many different venues.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
The great thing about working on music together is that we both love writing meaningful lyrics, and we’re different enough to push each other on how to make each song sound musically. We primarily have a folk sound, but different songs bring out other genres like soul, pop, and Americana.
As for inspiration, there are so many moments of vulnerability, uncertainty, and thankfulness that sometimes take a while to process, but can turn into beautiful lyrics. The name of our group is Solh, which is the Farsi word for Peace, and that is what we want our listeners to feel when they fall into our music – to know that we all go through difficult times, and yet there can be hope.
Another thing we hope to do with our music is to build relationships with non-profits and other local organizations to help highlight all the good that they do with little recognition. We hope to create soundtracks for these groups and help people in the community feel more connected.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Honestly, we think one of the greatest challenges facing artists is self-doubt. With the availability of social media and being able to see all the great art others are making, it can make the daily grind of practicing and trying to spread the word unfulfilling and doubtful. Additionally, it’s easy to overthink how are music will come off to others or be accepted rather than just putting out the best version of who we are.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Our plan is to release our first EP this summer, which will be available on all platforms under Solh. However, in the meantime, we have a website that lists all of our upcoming shows, and will be used to help promote any music and videos that we release:
Also, we are very open to working with groups, non-profits, and even weddings to bring our simple, peaceful music to any event!
