Art & Life with Shantell Rasmussen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantell Rasmussen.

Shantell, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am from a small town in New Mexico. I lived there all my life until July of 2017 when my family and I moved to Mesa Arizona. I have always had a passion for photography. I would ask for a disposable camera every year for Christmas and I even remember posing my stuffed animals for photo shoots. Eventually I was old enough for a digital camera, I picked out the pink one with a pink case. I carried it with me everywhere until getting a cell phone. In Jr High and High School, I took every Photoshop, Photography and Yearbook class available. I fell in love with the creativity and endless possibilities photography and technology has to offer.

Shortly after the birth of my second son, I purchased my first DSLR in 2015 and taught myself how to use it in manual. I loved capturing my own children and a photography business was the perfect fit for my life as a new mom.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a portrait photographer that specializes in Wedding and Family portraiture. My style is best described as natural, bold and timeless. Weddings are such a special day in someone’s life- I love being able to capture moments for them to cherish forever. Each session is unique and tells a story. I am always excited to get to know a new couple or family and help tell their story. During family sessions, I take less “posed” photos and more of the real/raw moments. I want to capture the real smiles, laughter and tight hugs. My clients are able to look back at these and feel those emotions all over again.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Often times for me, the biggest challenge is to keep going and not give up on this dream. I’ve been so fortunate to have a very supportive husband behind me 100%. I’ve learned to just do what you love, believe in yourself and appreciate the value in your work.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I use social media platforms to show my work. Instagram, Facebook and my website.
