Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Stegall.
Savannah, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My first art experience started with my dad who used mostly graphite. He’d send me his drawings from prison and wanted to be an artist just like him. When I got into high school I started painting. I won a scholarship for my art and I was off from there. I got pregnant my senior year however, got married right out of high school, and then had my second child at 19. At 20 I divorced my husband and moved to Phoenix to start a new healthy life for my children and I in 2015.
The same year my brother was shot and killed and it felt like I couldn’t catch a break, the only thing that stayed consistent in my life was the art. My art became rawer, more detailed, and the emotion grew substantially. I started putting my life back together, growing in the art community and building my name. In 2017 my father passed away as well, and I continued to put my grief, frustration, and heartbreak into my art. Since I’ve moved here I’ve worked, stayed in school, took care of my children and Maintained an art career, although still very in its infancy. I use art as a way to connect with others, to feed my family, and lastly to make my loved ones proud, alive and in the next life.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I use oil, acrylic, charcoal, graphite, and recently air brush. I mostly use canvas. I paint a lot of ppl because I like to portray emotion. I hope my audience would take the bright colors, mixed with emotion and small details and try to relate it to within their own life somehow.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
If people know my name and can recognize my style just by viewing it, that’s success on its own. A successful artist in my opinion would be accepting, open minded, kind, and humble,
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
