Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah McGuire.
Sarah, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My passion for drawing began at a young age. I don’t recall a time I wasn’t interested in being an artist. Growing up, in a small town in Missouri, I was given tons of support from teachers, friends and family. Although I was given so much support, I was also told art wasn’t a viable career path. So, I focused my education on being in the medical field. I first started my studies in psychology while working in a home mentally disabled. Then I changed my studies to nursing while starting a family of my own.
In 2009 my family and I decided to move to Arizona. After realizing my career choice was a waiting list process, I refocused on my art again, as it had taken a back burner while in college. Over the last 9 years I’ve used every spare moment of my time to work on building my skills and brand as an artist. Specializing in acrylic skylines and exterior/interior watercolor designs. When I’m not painting or caring for my family, I’m photographing whatever I can, from hair and fashion shots for friends to family portraits, landscapes and my own artwork.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Inspiration for my art comes from a variety of things and places. From a bike sitting next to a fully bloomed bush or a friend who wants a family portrait painting. I find joy in all things and people around me and try to recreate that in a piece of art. I simply want my art to bring people the same joy I get from painting it. Whether that joy is from it complimenting their room design or capturing a moment in their life that brought them joy.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
When you’re passionate about something you will find the resources to accomplish it. Also, be open minded that it may not always be the path you want or in vision.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
