Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hoag.

Sarah, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
After moving from the San Francisco Bay Area to Phoenix in 2016, I had to decide if I was going to re-start my photography business of 8 years or try something else. One of the main things I struggled with was how to market myself. No one likes to come off as “salesy” or pushy. After reading a few good books, listening to podcasts, and taking online courses, I fell in love with marketing. I fell in love with how each good business helps people, and my desire shifted to help business communicate how they help people solve problems. Photography is a huge communication piece, but it doesn’t stop there.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I help people & businesses communicate their brand visually with powerful imagery. Lifestyle photography of you in your business, serving people, coaching them, and guiding them needs to not only be heard but seen. You most likely do things in your business that people aren’t aware of and simply writing it on your website won’t get the message across. Most savvy business owners know that one of their major jobs is communication, you cannot simply state a message once and think that people will understand, you need to do it over and over again. Good photography provides a beautiful platform to communicate in a habitual way that does not get boring.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think Art is celebrated in Phoenix, the community of creatives is all about community over competition. I don’t think there has been a better time in history to be an artist, the more we can celebrate our differences the less we will feel the need to compare and the more we can simply be inspired. The best thing our city can do is create spaces where art is celebrated and keep featuring different human expression.
