Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob The Heart.
Rob, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in Florida, toured the country for 7-8 years as a drummer in an indie-rock band. Moved, sight unseen, to Tucson 5 years ago to build a recording studio with a friend and business partner.
Met my wife and followed her job to Phoenix 2 years ago.
I’m currently working full time as a staff engineer/producer at a recording studio in Downtown Phoenix called Epicentre Recording.
Rob the Heart started at the beginning of last year as a fun hobby and because of all the positive the response, it morphed into something way more serious. My goal as a producer/artist is to bring attention to the handful of amazing artists that are in this city, and show that even though this may not be somewhere like LA, NYC, or Toronto, we absolutely shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to what we have to offer the national/international music community. There are a lot of artists I see and get to work with first hand, that given the right opportunity, they could be the next voice of their respective genres.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I do not sing, so for all my tracks, I feature artists/singers/rappers to help provide the vocals.
The message is positive, light-hearted, fun, catchy music. It’s basically a blend of all the things I love. Indie pop, house, alternative hip-hop, mixed with all the flavors that the featured artists also bring to the table.
Rob The Heart also produces FOR other artists. I’ve produced tracks, and full Ep’s, for local (Tucson and Phoenix) artists like Seanloui, Jesse Konrad, BRYDES, Memar Blakelee, Young Dad, etc…
Inspirations… people who see being a music artist as more than just making songs, but incorporating all the art mediums to create a complete package.
I’m digging deep, but people like David Bowie, Flaming Lips, Santigold, Danger Mouse, Kaytranada, Blood Orange.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Know who you are.
If you know that, then no one can say you’re wrong, or tear you down with negative feedback. In the world of comment sections, blogs, and reviews and ratings, its easy to start second-guessing your decision making.
But its art. It’s music. It’s all subjective. The thing that could change someone’s life, could be the same thing that makes another person skip your song. You never know.
Be you, and thats what people will connect with.
I have a funny example that sort of go along with this.
I had a song I released last summer that got some decent publicity. It received two reviews that I’ll never forget. Once said, “Instrumental was GREAT, vocals were so-so.”
The second said, “Vocals were GREAT, instrumental was so-so.”
Can’t please everybody. So be yourself and the following will be there.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Well, it’s 2019, so I do all my visual art on Instagram. I use a mix of graphics, polaroids, and videos to promotes various releases.
All my music releases are streaming on all platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, etc…
