Art & Life with Rob Forrer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Forrer.

Rob, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I served in the army knowing very little about tattooing, it was easy to begin to sharpen my skill because bored soldiers will do about anything to get in your chair. I spent countless hours tattooing and drawing between military duty. After I left the Army, I started at a shop called stay true tattoo, I learned much about my trade from many well-endowed artists and I can’t appreciate them enough, from there I worked at three other shops constantly trying to better my artwork and my tattoo ability, today I work alongside some of the most respected artists in Arizona and the world.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I like mostly realism, especially anything with texture, nature scenes, and recently I like to get more stylized with surrealism, my tattoos if given full creative expression will be very large fully saturated pieces of artwork. I like showing people you can wear really imaginative and impressive artwork, it doesn’t have to be something you chose off the wall. I like mostly when people tell me they do not believe it’s a tattoo after seeing it, I get a kick out of it, it never gets old to hear!

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I have had the chance to speak with many aspiring artists from many different levels in their career and one message I left with all of them is to focus making your art the best it can be, the money will come, always keep your eye on the prize!
