Today we’d like to introduce you to Rich Militello and Holly Kirsten.
Rich and Holly, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Two Past One was formed two years ago, by happenstance. Around three years ago, Rich was an IT leader who’d been traveling back and forth from the east coast. He stumbled into Holly playing in the corner of a Chandler, AZ Hilton. At this time, Rich had been out of music for about ten years; previously, he’d been a sideman, and frontman of his own pop rock band, called Prayers for Rain. He’d released several records, played up and down the coast. But eventually lost his heart for music and simply stopped playing.
When Rich heard her singing in the corner, he came back down from his hotel room, sat directly in front of her and struck up a conversation. Holly had been playing around the valley for ten years–mostly solo–a mainstay at pubs, corporate events, and a great wedding singer.
Slowly, Rich began to write again, completing 30 or so new songs; at the same time, Holly and Rich started to play cover gigs and corporate events together as Two Past One. Since then, they have played all over the valley and become favorites at resorts, small restaurants, big clubs, pubs and have been invited for residencies at venues.
They love all genres of music, floating between the 1960s until the present day, as well as the love for playing their original material, which they will release at the end of 2019.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We play cover tunes and write our own music. We are inspired by great singing, guitar playing and a passion for live performance. When folks hear us sing and play, all we want is for them to enjoy it. Simple. Direct.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Play cause you love it. Everything else is a waste of material. Also, if along the way you make a life long best friend, that is nice too.
Also, lots of talent out there, but many people lack the drive and focus to succeed. And about that word? Yeah, you define what success is for you. There is only one U2. There was only one Queen. Be you.
