Art & Life with Randall Dempsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randall Dempsey.

Randall, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started playing drums at 20 in a band now known as “Snake! Snake! Snakes!” Played many shows with them but always worked on my own music on the side. I started to play as the Desert Beats about four years ago. I recruited a bass player and a drummer here in PHX but had to move to Tucson for work. Tucson was very good to me. The first year I was there I played about 70 shows. I released my first album January 2017 with Baby Tooth records of Tucson. I then was relocated back to PHX where I currently play with Daniel Chiazza in bass and Wes Forster on drums.

Can you give our readers some background on your work?
I’m a musician. My strength lies in my writing. I’m not big on lyrical content. I usually improv at live shows. I feel I can be the most honest and therefore perform better. I concentrate on the music. To me it is therapeutic. There is no message. I feel everyone should take what they want from what I write. I believe I’m just an antenna which receives waves from the universe and attempts to interpret those waves as music.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Be nice. Care about others work, or they won’t care about yours.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We are on Facebook, YouTube, Bandcamp, Instagram, etc… We play locally, and events can be found on said platforms.
