Today we’d like to introduce you to Prejon Henderson.
Prejon, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
As a kid, I would be singing, rapping, and dancing around the house at the age of 3 years old. I found a passion for performing very early at the boys and girls club every summer participating in talent shows and coming up with songs of my own at Church in Tennessee. It wasn’t until High school when I recorded my first track and didn’t start taking it seriously until after 2012 opening up for many industry artists such as T.I, E-40, Ty Dolla Sign, Twista, Lil Srappy, Nipsey Hussle, Tee Flii, Suga Free, and many more. I started off as a rapper but quickly began to gain recognition by singing hooks on collabs with various artist around Arizona and California. Thankfully many of these collabs received airplay on the radio in various states! I released my first mixtape in 2013 and hit 15 states promoting it everywhere! Moving to Phoenix in 2015 for a new job opportunity I fell back on the music for a while when life hit and my aunt needed a Kidney. I donated my kidney, and after recovering quickly, I hit the scene again hard with multiple Solo & radio singles with Arizona Hip Hop groups Win Team & Slk Money. Currently, I’m pushing a single call “Sapiosexual” by Brash Da Brilliant featuring myself along with the Music Video! Besides music, I get down on photography on my spare time!!!! Music is Life, and I am so thankful to be able to use it to INSPIRE!
Can you give our readers some background on your work?
I have a passion to spark emotions with every song. I can easily step out of my comfort zone to create a masterpiece. With influences from various genres including RnB, Hip Hop, Rap, Neo Soul, Gospel, Pop, and Reggae, my sound still remains original. My ability to sing and rap allows each song to grab a wide range of different listeners, but the message is what keeps driving my art to paint a picture that stays on the mind. The chance to inspire comes with every word we write down, so I make sure the message is relatable and only comes throw experience. My art is created to Inspire you to BE YOU! We all must find who we truly are and what we are meant to do and I feel I do just that for myself with every song!!!!
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your work been affected by issues you’ve been concerned about?
I feel as an artist we naturally are impacted by all things around us. It could be something going on in the music industry that sparks creativity or something within the government that helps generate that next hit record. Regardless of the circumstances, I feel my movement is to help people see they can be great. Sometimes life distracts us from our purpose, and I have come to discover gift can do wayyyy more than make a room of people dance. As I mature as an artist, I find my role is to connect people to something worth living for and finding ways to do so on a level many others may be scared to go.
