Art & Life with Patrick Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Gomez.

Patrick, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have always been around photography. I practically grew up in the portrait studio my mother worked in. Even my Grandparents, on both sides of my family were always talking photos with their cameras. It wasn’t until about a year ago I truly came into my own with the art form. The creative process, the way I could control how things looked aside from its reality is why I fell in love with photography.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
The way I work is simple. I have an idea for a composition and I create it. I love to tell stories through my art to give it an important message. However, that’s not always the case, but I produce these works for joy of being able to say I produced this piece. I have a passion for masking others happy through my photos. I push myself daily to discover new techniques, to shape new things even if it is a basic still-life. There is nothing like the feeling of creating something you are proud of.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
There is an overwhelmingly great number of talented artists today. It can be tough because of the amount of competition. It’s hard to gain traction because people tend to look more at popular photographer pages, blogs etc. However, I believe magazines like Voyage can help by giving fewer known creators a change to show what they are capable of.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My main source is on Instagram. There are two accounts that I have. One is a purely black and white account found @_patricks_photo and my all color account found @_patricks_colors. I am fairly new to having my work and will likely create a website in the future.
