Today we’d like to introduce you to Niki Santi.
Niki, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Being a Libra, I feel I’ve always had the creative streak embedded deep within. Throughout my life, I have loved anything that required assembling beautiful things, whether it be painting, jewelry, or home decorations. In January 2016 I had my second child and decided to take some time off of work. It was during this time; I knew I had to take my passion for making and turn it into a business. Hence, Blue Sparrow Artistry was born.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a jewelry designer, silversmith, electroformer. I love working with Turquoise and other gemstones. Nature has given us such beauty. My passion lies in taking her gifts and making them into beautiful pieces. When I create silver pieces, I use a torch to form and solder to bring them to life. When I electroform, I use mostly raw gemstones and turn them into wearable art. That process is a little more hard to explain, but it involves lots of science.
I have a passion for being outside in the sunshine, especially when it includes my husband, two small children, and our two rescue pits. It evokes such inspiration. I love the aura that comes from walking through the woods, listening to the leaves rustle in the trees or being near the water, hearing the ripples crash into the shore. The mountains in all their glory provide a huge sense of inspiration, also from riding on the back of my husband’s chopper. There is nothing more freeing than feeling the wind on your face and being able to perceive nature around you with no obstructions. Bringing along an awareness which reaches down and touches my soul, I love creating and allowing others to express themselves by wearing my Bohemian jewelry. The goal is to create unique jewelry that can be passed down through the generations.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
That is so true. Working from home and selling online can leave you a bit isolated. I have found a very supportive network of artists through Instagram. If you find someone you connect with and are too shy to send them a message you can start by commenting on their posts. Sharing their post in stories to help promote their work. People will often reach out to say thank you for leaving the door open to strike up a conversation. Search hashtags that you use, and you’ll find artists in your category.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I mostly sell online through my website bluesparrowartistry.com and offer custom orders through my Instagram – Instagram.com/bluesparrowartistry
