Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah (Mo) Maduro.
Moriah, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My music journey started in 6th grade playing trombone for my school for three years. I knew I had a passion for music, but I wasn’t sure how much and where to start. When I turned 16, my dad bought me my first guitar. I was and always will be a do it yourself kind of gal, so sitting in on a guitar lesson was difficult for me. I started learning chords and simple songs my guitar then at some point during that process I decided to sing the songs I would play. I remember thinking to myself “im kind of good at singing.” I remember one year making all my friends close their eyes while I sing to them to the next year singing the national anthem in front of the whole school. Throughout high school you experience so much in such a small amount of time, that’s how I started to write music. First mostly about love then as I made my teenage mistakes my lyrics found depth. Since then I’ve gotten to experience the ups and downs of music, from writer’s block and dry seasons to gigs and exposure of my music. I can say today that music has been my biggest pride and joy.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a singer-songwriter out of Goodyear, Arizona. I play guitar and dabble in a couple other instruments like piano, drums, bass, and trombone. My art comes from not just my experiences in life but from others and their stories. My goal when writing my songs is to have a final product that will allow you to experience the story behind the lyrics. I think music holds a place in our hearts and minds that cant be replaced by anything else. I want people to hear my music and be positively impacted. Ive always been a listener, an observer, quite at most times to take in my surroundings. Singing my songs gives me a chance to vividly paint a picture of the things I see and experience.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success as an artist to me is to love being an artist. Once you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life, that’s the best way I can put finding success. When developing characteristics as an artist I think it’s very important to stay humble and be aware that we are always meant to feed ourselves with knowledge no matter how successful, there is always something to learn,
