Art & Life with Meghann Tatz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghann Tatz.

Meghann, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I began working with art in 2015 because I wanted a way to display my art without having to spend so much on framing. I developed a process to mount my pieces on wood. After making art for friends and family, I decided to try selling my pieces. I have had so much fun working with and meeting new people at shows. I am married, and between us, we have two boys. I am a full-time social work student at ASU. I am originally from Ohio but have come to love the desert.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make prints with vintage dictionary paper, and I work them onto wood. I also take prints of all sizes and use them to make large pieces of wood art. I love making new prints, and I really enjoy working with clients to create unique pieces for their homes. I also work with photographers to make wood art for their clients. I love working with old paintings. I want art to be affordable and accessible. I really enjoy the aged and handmade feel of my work. I cut, sand, and stain every piece I make. Recently I have started experimenting with wool tapestries and, dip dyeing, which I am very excited to explore.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Art is still a hobby for me. Supplies are expensive, and free time is hard to find. Hopefully, someday I can make art full time, but until then I will keep making what I can when I can. My advice is to not give up, and start with what you can afford, both with time and resources.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I am the artist for Tucson Coffee Roasters at both locations in Tucson.

I also sell my work at Midtown Mercantile Merchants in Tucson.

Jan-April I am showing at Brooklyn Pizza Co in Tucson.
