Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsi Luffman.
Lindsi, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
The creative gene runs in my family, from music to drawing, painting, and photography; almost everyone in my family has some sort of creative talent. When I was in high school, I took a film (what’s that?!) photography class where we had to roll and develop our own film in a darkroom. I fell in love with the process of creating something from beginning to end and having the end result be something completely unique to me. Little did I know, when taking that class, the art of photography was something that had been in my family for multiple generations. On my 18th birthday, my grandma gave me my favorite gift to date- a camera that had belonged to my Great x6 grandmother; she had received it as a wedding gift in the early 1800s. Sometimes you feel an unexplained connection to something; this was one of those things. I had always loved taking photos, but now that love seemed to come full circle and had so much more meaning.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
John Muir said, “Into the woods, I go to lose my mind and find my soul.” I try my best to put that into my photography. I like to refer to myself as an adventure photographer. This doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone who wants to be in front of my camera needs to be a skydiver or has to have backpacked all 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail. The definition of adventure is “an unusual and exciting experience or activity;” what is unusual and exciting is different for everyone! Want to have an epic backdrop of dramatic cliffs overlooking a lake? Let’s go! Love going to concerts and want photos surrounding the rush you get when you hear that first strum of the electric guitar? I’ll be right there rocking out next to you! When my clients receive their photos, I want them to remember the experience and real emotions that were being felt, not how awkward they felt while being posed unnaturally. If you appreciate a good laugh and fluent sarcasm, we’ll get along great and probably end up making plans to get a drink after your session!
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Community over the competition is always the best way to go. All artists just want to create something beautiful, so why not support each other?! You can never have enough of any type of art, and there’s room in this big world for all of us to create. So let’s build each other up, buy from and hire local artists rather than tear others work down.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can find my photography on FuFu Berry Jones Soda labels around the country! If you can’t find my label, the next best place to look is my website and social media platforms @lindsirianphoto. The best way to support my work is to follow me on Instagram and Facebook, then tell your friends about “that awesome adventure photographer!”
