Art & Life with Laura Kobes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Kobes.

Laura, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have always had a love and appreciation for photographs. To me, all photographs tell a story. Sometimes that story is about the photographer other times it’s a story about the subject. When my children came along I wanted to be sure to document their story my husband bought me a camera and I was hooked. Eventually my hobby of capturing my children became a true passion for me. I wanted to take pictures of their smiles, their tears, their experiences, even those runny noses. I started photographing everything from nature to my husband and I would bring my camera to BBQ’s with friends. Friends started to ask me for my prices and everything unfolded from there. The biggest transition was when a friend asked me to photograph her vow renewal. I respectfully declined, a few times, but she was persistent and eventually won. That was the night I fell in love with luxury wedding photography.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I photograph luxury weddings, elopements, couples, families, even nature and editorial pieces. I love romance, connection, and passion. I create fine art pieces that can be cherished for generations. I have always had an appreciation for fine details and I believe those details put together, help tell the story. I am a very emotional person and my photography is based on emotion and the environment in which I am shooting. I want my clients to look at their images and be able to feel something. My artwork is unique in the way that I don’t have one particular style. I shoot and edit based on my client’s story and what we have envisioned for the shoot. For example, one couple I photographed recently had were very light hearted and sweet so I photographed them more “light and airy”. Some of favorite images are darker, more emotional images. I focus a lot on the in between moments. That is where I get the raw emotion. I love that.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
My only advice is to do you. Do what you can with what you have. You can and you will make it work!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I would love for people to check out my work, like and follow me on social media!
