Today we’d like to introduce you to Lala Vazquez.

Lala, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve always been an artist in some way or another. I worked in the hair industry for years. I also did freelance makeup. Now I have learned that this was all preparing me for the type of artist that I am now. A few years ago my son was diagnosed with autism. Learning that your son has a disability and will face challenges can really bring you down. I started to fall into a depression I developed severe anxiety and didn’t know how I was going to cope. Due to his challenges I had to stay home with him and could no longer express my Artistry at work. So one day I decided to try acrylic painting. It’s become my Escape every painting is special to me because I have put all of my heart and soul into it. With every painting I feel a sense of relief and release.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Around the same time my son was diagnosed I also decided to go vegetarian. I’ve always felt a sense of connection with animals since I was a kid. That is why I specialize in animal paintings. Something about the innocence and beauty of an animal touches my soul. I hope that you could see that in my art

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I definitely still believe in the starving artist Theory. But at the same time with social media being such a big platform for artist there is actually more exposure than ever and opportunities. You just got to go out there and look for it. Network
