Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Pederson.

Lacey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was inspired to do art from a young age by my mother who is an amazing artist. I didn’t start to pursue it until college where I learned a lot but quickly got bored with it. I figured if art can be anything why do I need to go to school for it.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I largely paint with acrylics. Sometimes, I have an idea that I just have to put on a canvas! Mostly I just turn on some music or a tv program and paint. I never go into the painting with the idea it needs to be something. I just want my feelings and imagination to the work.

When other people see my work, I want them to feel whatever they are feeling. I wish I could say my art has a greater depth and an amazing backstory but it doesn’t. I just wanted to paint something for me and if others can appreciate it, then I have done a good job.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Art is expensive. It’s time-consuming and endless. But if you love it don’t stop. If you are broke, get a job at a restaurant. It’s the best place to make quick cash and to meet new people to inspire you. The bigger your personal network is the more likely you are to succeed.
