Art & Life with Jessica Haber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Haber.

jessica, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I spent most of my adult life working in restaurants and catering. My husband was a chef so food was a big part of our lives. After many years owning our own restaurant and deli, both of us decided we needed a change. I chose to go back to school, study nutrition, and then became a certified health coach.

In 2014 we moved to Gilbert and I found Scentsible Suds at the Gilbert Farmers Market. I fell in love with the soaps and the difference using natural skin care made in my life. As a mother, the quality of what my family puts on their bodies is just as important as what we put in them. When the opportunity to take over this amazing business came along, it just seemed like the perfect fit. I spent months being mentored in the art of how to hot process soaps and combined it with my knowledge of other natural products and my husband’s ability to create unique recipes to formulate an entire line of soaps and skin care using the same high quality ingredients we do in our kitchen.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make small batch all natural soaps using high quality oils, herbs and botanicals. We pride ourselves in only adding essential oils for scent and the added benefits they offer our skin and bodies. Using a hot process and avoiding perfumes and synthetic fragrances are two things that really set us apart from most ‘soapers’. Once I mastered the art of hot processing our soaps, I adopted the same methods and beliefs as we expanded our product line. We now have all natural scrubs, lotions, liquid soaps, lip balms, deodorants, and an entire men’s line for beard care and shaving. We are always experimenting and expanding which can be a lot of fun.

I hope to inspire people to be as diligent about what they use on their bodies as they are with what they put into them. So many of us watch what we eat and work hard to stay in shape but never think twice about the skin or hair care products we’re using. I’ve learned that is just as important and can have just as much of an impact as food or exercise.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I believe art always holds a place in our society. With the influx of big business and corporations, especially locally, I think people like to have a connection with certain things they purchase. Be it a piece of art or a bar of soap, it’s nice to know there is an actual person who put their heart and soul into what they made.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We currently operate out of the Gilbert Farmers Market every Saturday, year round. We also have a website, www.AZdopesoap.com, and ship throughout the US. We participate in many local events which we post on our site as well.

I have used so many of these soaps. I love them all. I can’t choose a favorite because each time I go to the Farmers Market a new one becomes my favorite. The lip gloss is the best I have ever used and I have used many in my lifetime. I look forward to seeing what new products are there each time I go.
