Art & Life with JAM

Today we’d like to introduce you to JAM.

JAM, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was originally born in Chicago, Illinois and I moved to Phoenix when I was five. I always knew that music was what I wanted to pursue as a career and I played in a motley of bands growing up. The majority of them I played bass for, but I was always writing my own songs and believed that it’s important to play with an intention behind the music. In high school I started practicing meditation, went vegan and made a shift to live a much more conscious lifestyle.

This really influenced my music and when I was 17 I entered Alice Cooper’s annual Proof is in the Pudding music competition. I ended up being in the first-place winning band two years in a row opening for artists like The Gin Blossoms, The Hollywood Vampires and a myriad of others. Being a part of Alice’s charity opened up so many opportunities; and one of them ended up being able to record at Jack Johnson’s studio in Hollywood. In early 2018, I released the first half of my debut album Universal Love and I am currently finishing it Los Angeles now.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I write music for a lot of different reasons and it changes with life. Sometimes it’s for myself to express a certain emotion that I’m feeling or to share an experience I’ve had; but the underlying message that pervades a lot of my music is Love. The intention within what I create is to leave people feeling better about their lives after they listen to it. I think that’s the point of art in the first place… to change the way people feel. I guess I just choose to inspire others to feel good.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
That’s a great question and I think it’s really important for everyone to ask themselves this. My definition of success is to simply be happy. I love the acronym RICH! It stands for Realizing I Create Happiness. It’s essential for me as an artist to set worthy goals that take months or even years to accomplish; and at the same time focus on the wholeness within the present moment. One of the greatest gifts we are given as humans is the ability to dream. So, if you’re “living the dream” I think that is a success.
