Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakob Owens.
Jakob, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
In college I picked up a camera and started shooting music videos for local Arizona artists. My name quickly got around the AZ hip hop scene and next thing you know I was shooting local music videos left and right. From their I started uploading my videos on YouTube channel (TheBuffNerds) from their I started growing a following and I began shooting for artists outside the state of AZ. As my YouTube video views grew so did my reputation and name as a music video director. After college I moved to LA and began full time Directing/Editing music videos for industry level artists while maintaining my YouTube channel and growing my following. A few years later I’ve become someone who has directed/edited/shot music videos for some of the biggest artists in the industry and have amassed quite the social media following while doing so.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I do a lot of things, but at the core of it all I make videos. That’s where it began, but as far as video production goes I Direct/Shoot/Edit everything from music videos, films, commercials, travel content, informational YouTube videos and more. I’ve also built and established 3 different filmmaking companies as well BuffNerds Media and Tropic Color, and Industry Jump among selling my own various filmmaking & photography products on my online store. More than being a freelance filmmaker, I’ve become quite the entrepreneur and have created products to help the next up and coming filmmakers as well.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I honestly really don’t pay much attention to anything going on in the world. I try to stay off social media and when I do I only follow a couple people, my close friends and family and that’s really it! I stay to myself and don’t really pay attention to all the noise and chaos going on in the world.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My YouTube channel is TheBuffNerds that’s where I post most of my content, but the best place to follow along and see my work is on Instagram (@jakobowens) that’s where you can stay up to date with every project I’m working on, see behind the scenes videos/pictures and so much more!
