Art & Life with Heather Kinkel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Kinkel.

Heather, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Being a photographer is a talent and also a major growth industry in the commercial world. For me, finding the balance between being artistic and profitable at the same time has been quite the journey. I’ve found that taking personal photos for myself – of whatever inspires me and that has no other purpose than to bring joy to me and keep me energized creatively – is the best way to stay fresh.

Anytime art is turned into work or money it runs the risk of becoming unenjoyable, and that is obvious to the viewer. As an artist, that’s the opposite of what I’m trying to do. My goal is to bring a moment of joy or light to another human being’s life, day, year, moment.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I tell stories and feelings through images. I do it because I can and I feel like I really have a voice and something to say. Not always – there are ebbs and flows to creativity – but the majority of the time, I appreciate nothing more than finding beauty in anything: food, scenery, life.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
For me, personally: everyone is a photographer. Just love that saying, because it’s true. And nothing lights my creative fire and business intuition than remembering that. If I want to pay the bills with my creativity, I have to be better than your average ‘grammer.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Instagram is the best place to see my day to day feels and inspiration as well as what I’m creating for myself and for clients www.instagram.com/heatherlil. I also keep my website updated on the regular. Viewers will find new images there all the time – photography is a living, breathing art, and it’s my job to make sure it’s always fresh and new.
