Today we’d like to introduce you to Haylee Morice.
Haylee, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My name is Haylee Morice, and I’m a full-time painter and illustrator. I started drawing when I was young but didn’t make it a daily habit until I was a teenager. It started off with cheesy drawings of all my favorite book characters and later grew into a lifelong passion. I decided in high school that I wanted to go to college and study art, and I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Visual Communication from Utah Valley University back in December of 2017.
One of my favorite parts about creating art is the ability to constantly improve, and I have so many artists that I look to for insight and inspiration. I think that art is a great medium to use to express yourself, and the thought of what I’ll be making 5, 10, or 20 years down the road is really exciting to me.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I work primarily with digital tools, but also enjoy painting traditionally with watercolors. My style is intended to look both graphic and illustrative, with bold lines and soft saturated colors. My goal is to create dream-like environments and portraits that bring the viewer into another world. I really enjoy drawing things that wouldn’t naturally go together, and whimsical people and objects are a big part of what I find inspiring.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
For me success equates to my progression as an artist. Not all artists are going to bring in lots of money or recognition, but if you’re passionate about your craft and are continually improving then I feel you’ve succeeded in some regard. A quality I think all artists should have is perseverance, because making art is something that needs lots of patience and a healthy amount of failure to get good at.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can find my work on Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube (all @hayleemorice). And if you’d like to support me you can find prints of my art available in my shop on my website!
