Today we’d like to introduce you to Gianna Liberatore.
Gianna, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
To start off, being outdoors is truly my happy place. I get overjoyed whenever I see a horse anywhere, and I have been riding horses ever since I can remember. I have ridden in a variety of disciplines such as jumping, Gymkhana as well as trail riding. I also showed competitively for some years in Western and English pleasure events.
Photography was always something of interest to me. So, on a whim in mid-2012, I bought a Nikon D3100 (which I still have and shoot with to this day!) and brought it out to the barn. Knowing what type of shots equestrians seek and combining my knowledge of horse and rider gaits and timing, I began snapping away.
I then began taking my camera to horse shows still practicing and perfecting the timing of my “trot,” “jog” and overall horse and rider in action gait shots. Eventually, I created what came to be G I A Photography. Not only does it imply my first name (Gianna, Gia) but is actually an acronym standing for “Gaits In Action.”
Since then G I A Photography has evolved into accommodating a variety of photography ranging from senior/graduation, engagement sessions, pet photography and more. Every shoot is unique but still shares the same concept of providing in the moment, in action pieces.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create in action and in the moment inspired photographs.
Although horses and equestrian style shoots are what essentially started G I A Photography, I aim to shoot for the simplistic beauty of our surroundings all while keeping things as candid, instinctive and tranquil as possible.
My goal for every shoot is to get into the perspective that captures the subject (no matter who or what it may be) being 110% uniquely and naturally them and then being able to relive what was going on in the moment by viewing the still image caught.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
For me personally, as an artist, I seek to show my subjects in their most raw, vulnerable and natural state. That being said, my goal is to continue to showcase the simplistic beauty of the natural state of things (Humans, animals, cacti, mountains, sunsets, you name it) in a world that can often be chaotic and is constantly ever changing.
