Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Webster.
Elizabeth, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was in elementary school, I lived in Germany. I remember my mom worked all day so after school I went to daycare. The daycare had so many things to do, but I spent all my time in the art room. I got a sketchbook that was supposed to last me all year. I finished it in a week. I was so happy in that room with permanently paint stained floors surrounded by other creative individuals and Mr. Sketch smelly markers. Throughout my several location changes, I always had art. It was always just a hobby to me until someone who believed in me told me I could make a career out of it. I have now switched my college major from psychology to art and am loving it. Being in another room with permanently paint stained floors and creative individuals feel like home. The only difference is we are older, and we use copic instead of Mr. Sketch.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make several different forms of art. I started off using acrylic paints, I experimented with oils a little, and now I’m really into watercolors. I also work with colored pencils often. I’m currently looking to improve my realism because abstract has always been my niche. I’m looking to challenge myself. I’m looking to grow. My inspiration is my own twisted mind, and I create art because it is absolutely what I love to do. It is my therapy.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The role of artists today is as important as ever. Art can be used to send global messages. Art hits people differently than a newscast. They get it. Artists give people a voice when they feel like they don’t have one. Issues in the world today inspire my art.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
