Art & Life with Devon Esquivel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Esquivel.

Devon, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am an only child, just me and my mother when I was growing up so most of entertaining I did was for myself. I drew like most kids do but I ended up having a real knack for it. The attention to detail ended up becoming a form therapy for me around the age of 13 which eventually spilled over into the photography world as well.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My first love story was about a pencil and some paper. I draw mostly with just lead or charcoal and have been since the age of 12. I eventually got into photography in high school around the age of 17 and haven’t looked back since. I love creating because it has allowed me to get away from reality and into a tranquil place in my head. In terms of my drawings, they are me. They embody the things that I love and the things that I feel and are the raw parts of me. As for my photography, it is for everyone around me. I love capturing raw moments that showcase the people and things around me through my interpretation of beauty. Although I know it is tough to find, I pray every one finds a medium to express themselves through. Sometimes those practices are the things that save us in this life

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I could name a couple but the one challenge that sticks out to me is the need for constant content. Today’s media always needs something new and exciting every five minutes and I think that takes away from the build and investment in the process. The world is only getting faster but sometimes we need to slow it down and take it in.
