Art & Life with Darrylee Cohen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrylee Cohen.

Darrylee, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My love of photography started very young around the age of 10 when I picked up my dads 35mm film camera and loved taking pictures of anything and everything. I used that same 35mm all through high school yearbook and high school newspaper. After college, I worked in marketing and promotions for radio stations and I loved taking photos of all of the radio station events! Around that time is when digital became more accessible and I got my first digital camera – A Canon Rebel in 2005. One day, I decided to turn my passion into a career and started Haute Photography & Videography in 2008. Now, I lead a team of 20 highly professional Photographers and Videographers who travel worldwide to capture corporate, community, and charity events!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Every photograph I take is inspired by my love of people and capturing them enjoying life! My goal is to use my gift of photography to give back to our community — we recently photographed patient portraits at the Banner Children’s Hospitals that they will use for their annual fundraiser. Opportunities like that remind me why I do what I do. What I hope people take away from my art is a special memory. There is a story and a memory behind every photo!

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Every artist plays a different role in society and the role you play is dependent on several factors — personality, what you are trying to communicate, the medium you are using to portray your message. As photographers/videographers, part of our role is to capture and document both major moments in life and also the little things we may not think about on a daily basis. We live in a world full of constant change and part of our job is to capture that change – to communicate the change to the world. When we capture a photo and share it with others, we are sharing a message. Our art is directly affected by local, national, and international events and issues — our art is purely a representation of such events. We don’t always get to choose what we capture because we don’t know what events or issues are going to take place but when they do, we are right there with our cameras ready to snap and share with the world!
