Art & Life with Daniel Limón

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Limón.

Daniel, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in New Mexico. That is where I credit my grandmother for introducing me with art as an outlet of expression. She always kept me busy with drawing, painting and making crafts. Visual expression became my way of understanding and communicating.

As an adult, now, I understand that we all learn in different ways. School was always a little difficult for me. I was never really able to learn in a traditional school setting. I learn with being hands on and with visuals. Grasping how I learn really helped me succeed to the point where I am today. We all learn in different ways and I feel like it’s not explored enough.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I work mainly in two different mediums, tattooing, and painting. When it comes to tattooing I’m working a lot with other people’s concepts. It’s my job to take their ideas and make it work into a piece of art that will live on them for the rest of their life. I do have those clients that just want to collect a tattoo from me and let me do what I want. With those, I am able to really express my visual perspective and style. With each design, I select something I think with complement my client.

My paintings are my outlet for what’s going on in my head. My inspiration is different with every painting. The last series I worked on was all a reflection of a break-up. Each piece told a different story in the process. From each painting, I learned a lot about what was going on in my head. A feeling came up, I didn’t even know I had. Painting was the best way I knew to process the hardship of a break-up. With my work, I want to connect with people that can relate.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
I would say to keep busy working. Do what you love. If being an artist is what you want to do then do it. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. It’s all possible if you believe it is. Learn as much as you can from your peers and don’t be afraid of being your self. I wish I was more comfortable in my own skin when I was younger. I feel my art would have developed a little faster.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I tattoo at Lady Luck Tattoo Gallery in Tempe. You can see me here and collect a tattoo from me. I have some of my paintings here as well. At the moment, I have some of my work on display at my old college in Tucson, the Southwestern University of Visual arts.
