Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Cohn.
Dana , please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I can remember doing this before i could walk. I bit into my mothers lipstick because of its cherry redness. It was sour so i tried the wall next. I made the discovery of dunking colored wrapping paper in the toilet for its watercolor effect on that perfect porcelain wall behind me. Creating things has always been exciting. I love it. It also melts depression. I was raised in the very rural region of Dewey, Arizona where i fell in love with the land and all its inhabitants. We didn’t have much money but I received a scholarship to Augustana College in rock island Illinois & then another for my masters at Yale University in New Haven Connecticut. I lived in New York city & Chicago as well as Miami. I currently live in Prescott Arizona and teach painting at Yavapai College and Prescott College.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I love it every day and its different every day. Its a positive way to live. “Painting is philosophy in action.”
-Leonardo Da Vinci
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
The fear that they’re not any good.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
danacohn.com is my website. A lot of my work is here in the colleges and the murals around town
(Prescott). I’m in a gallery in Santa Fe called “Eye on the Mountain.” People support my work with their reactions of kindness and their desire to possess something I did.
