Art & Life with Criss Robles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Criss Robles.

Criss, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m from a small border town, San Luis. I always felt like a didn’t fit with many of the other people from my town. I had my small group of friends who had similar taste in music and fashion and we would always try and create photos or anything creative. It was hard because there was nothing interesting in town so we had to be extra creative. Since then I’ve been taking photos and don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a photographer. I like taking photos of people and their outfits. I have always been inspired by fashion, music, and colors. I always try and stay inspire by listening to music. When I listen to certain songs I get this sort of colors in my mind and little clips like a music video in my head. I try to mimic the images in my head in real life. I try to put all 3 inspirations (music, colors, fashion) into the images I capture and I always try to take them like if they were going to be the cover of a magazine.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Doesn’t be afraid to be turned down. There were moments when I saw a perfect shot when I was walking down the street or in some other places and I was too shy to ask to take a photo. Just ask, you won’t lose anything if you get turned down. It might be a bit awkward but that’s about it.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The only places I usually post my work is at Instagram ( @mynameiscriss ), Tumblr, and VSCO. I am working on my website right now so it should be up and running in a couple weeks. It would be really interesting to do a gallery of my work featuring other amazing local artists all around town. That way people can see art in real life not through a screen.
