Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Eldred.
Christopher, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Having been an artist my entire life, I decided to pursue it as a career in my late twenties. I earned a degree in art with the intention of becoming a graphic designer, but I quickly fell in love with helping and teaching other collegiate artists. So, I decided to focus on becoming an art teacher. I’m also a professional artist and balancing these two full-time jobs is an art unto itself.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art focuses mainly on portraits. I find it fascinating that we all have the same facial features but we all look totally different. My portraits, however, don’t look realistic. I build my paintings and drawings with basic artistic elements like line, shape, and pattern. I’m not interested in representing what people see every day. My aim is to try and reinvent the mundane, so to speak. I hope that when people view my art they will consider it an invitation to turn boring into beauty. But that’s not to say that faces are boring. Well, not all of them!
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Just create! Don’t question your artistic process until you understand it. And don’t try to be anything but you.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Right now, my work can be found on my Instagram. I also maintain a website at www.christophereldred.com and www.harebrainstudio.com. Anyone interested in purchasing a piece from me, I invite to reach out via Instagram. I also have works for sale on Saatchi Art under the nom de plume Topher Dred.
Instagram is also the place to find out about my upcoming exhibitions.
