Art & Life with Chelsea Lozano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Lozano.

Chelsea, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a part-time photographer born and raised in the Verde Valley. I’m engaged to my high school sweetheart and have amazing family and friends (and let’s not forget four 70+ pound fur babies). I was lucky enough to grow up with a very creative mom who was always taking pictures and scrapbooking. So from a young age without realizing it I loved photography and capturing memories, big and small. In high school, I took three years of photography and had so much fun getting to create. I really loved macro photography, nature, and landscapes.

Then my junior year, I was asked to do senior photos for a classmate, and that’s really where I fell in love with photography. There’s something special about being a small part in capturing peoples special moments. At this point, I have chosen not to specialize in a specific type of photography because I couldn’t imagine having to give up a certain type. From maternity to families, engagements, and weddings, I love it all. Being able to have clients that come back to me for their big life moments is such an honor.

I’ve been blessed with people in my life who support and believe in my dreams, and I hope to one day in the future be a full-time photographer.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Like I mentioned before I don’t specialize in a specific type of photography because at this point I couldn’t imagine not doing it all. I love capturing all of the big life moments and couldn’t see myself giving one up. My goal with my photography is to help capture more than just a photo but a feeling. That feeling you get when you hear an old song, and it takes you back to a specific time in your life. I want people to see a photo I took years later and have it take them back to exactly the way they felt at that point in their life. If I had any message for people its just to take pictures, take all the pictures, whether its professional or just on your own. Even if you feel you don’t look your best or aren’t ready, one day you’re going to appreciate those memories.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
The best advice I can give is to not compare your work with others, which is something I am still working on every day. In the world of social media, it is so easy to compare your work with others and feel like you’re not good enough. But remembering that we are all on our own artistic journey is what’s really important. Try comparing your work now to where you started. Even if you’re not where you want to be you’re working your way there, and that’s what matters.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I’m still working on being more consistent on my social media, but the easiest way to check out my work is either Facebook, Instagram, or my website. And the best way to show support is by following my pages and liking, commenting, and sharing with your friends and family.
