Today we’d like to introduce you to Celestial Williams.
Celestial, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started out as a professional makeup artist back in 1996. I trained with some of the best makeup artists in Los Angeles, and then made a name of my own. After moving to Arizona in 2005, I decided to mix things up a bit. I found PHXFW and became their styling director. That move helped me to develop my love for fashion. I started a clothing line, and from there became the beauty editor, and then editor-in-chief of a teen magazine. Somewhere in all of that, I found time to get married, have four kids, and model with FORD/RBA! I’m so grateful for my journey, but in my heart, these things weren’t fulfilling my dream of becoming an artist. When I hit 40, I decided to do something about it! I went to the Milan Art Institute, where I learned how to draw and paint like the old masters. After I learned what the rules were, I was able to break them, and discover my own artistic voice. It’s never too late to discover new talents and go after your dreams!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I use every medium from graphite, charcoal, inks, acrylics, spray paint, and oil. It just depends on what the painting is calling for. I like to keep my options open. So, I guess you could say, I paint mixed media oil on canvas and sometimes fine art paper. My favorite technique is sketching with charcoal, using spray paint, then finishing with a layer of oils. You’ll usually find me flinging charcoal and paint all over my studio! I’m from LA County, so you’ll see an urban influence in my art. I’m also a huge advocate of light and beauty. My art is bold, powerful, strong, but always with an element of beauty and light. It’s important to me that when someone views my art, they feel that strength. There’s enough crazy in the world, my goal is definitely to bring beauty back.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
This is the absolute best time in the history of art to become an artist! Just imagine if Klimt had Instagram! The biggest challenge that I think artists face today, is that many have not found their real authentic voice. When you’re not sure who you are on the inside, it’s hard to develop your voice and share it on a canvas or in a sculpture.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
