Art & Life with Ashley Vanderlugt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Vanderlugt.

Ashley, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Growing up I was always baking with my grandmother, the time with her and the things I learned have always been some of my best childhood memories, and I really wanted to share those same moments with my two children. One night, while watching television with my husband, I saw a video of someone decorating sugar cookies and thought “I can do that with the kids”. As I started looking further into it, I learned that there was actually a business opportunity in it and thought it would be such a great way to share what I love doing with others as well as teach my children what it meant to follow your dreams and how to work for what you are truly passionate about. Thus, Daisy Mountain Cookie Co. was born.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My artwork on all of my cookie sets are custom to the buyer. I have very little limitations on what I am capable of drawing, writing or painting on a cookie. I love seeing all of the different ideas my customers have for their cookies, and I always appreciate a challenge when it comes to design; sometimes I get asked to paint a family pet or match an invitation to an event, and I always find those cookie sets fun.

I hope that my customers, as well as the people they share my cookies with, feel the love and patience that went into their personal set. I take a lot of pride in my work, and I want my customers left feeling wowed, satisfied and full.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
If I had to give any advice to another cookie artist, or cookier as we call ourselves in the cookie community, it would be to just have patience. I learn something new with every batch of cookies I make, you never know it all! I’ve gone back and looked at pictures of some of the first cookies I’ve ever made, and I am just blown away at the progress that I have been able to make over this last year, it is something I am very proud of.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
People can see my work on social media, we have an Instagram account and a Facebook account. Almost every cookie set we create as well as other news and/or giveaways are posted on them @daisymountaincookieco. (The handles are the same for each social media account)

I always love seeing pictures that our customers post on social media, its the best way they can ever help my business grow, seeing the responses from the exposure is always a pleasure to see!
