Today we’d like to introduce you to Asher/Hori-Ema Emerson.

Asher/Hori-Ema, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
A steadfast obsession since childhood met with a necessity to diversify as a working artist, has grown into an ambition that’s inspired by masters of Japanese tattooing.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m a tattooer and a pinstripe artist. These two creative outlets are steeped in traditions based on linear art. My tattooing is deeply inspired by the masters of Japanese tattooing and also influenced by my work as a pinstriper. You can see it infused into some of my tattoo work. The inspiration for my tattooing comes from a desire to create bold, beautiful works of art, for people with an appreciation of the art form. My wish is to cultivate and inspire the continuation of the traditions of Japanese tattooing.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
Focus. Focus seems to be the biggest challenge facing anyone wanting to create a name for themselves today. This is probably not anything, that hasn’t been a challenge, for those in the past but today, we have an astronomical amount of distraction. Investing in good habits like setting aside time to develop and create for yourself has tremendous benefits for everyone.
