Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela and Lui Campos.
Angela, Lui, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
We are a family business born out of my, Angie’s, love for pallets. I fell in love with the idea of reusing pallets to create unique and custom home decor. I finally talked my husband, Lui, into collaborating with me after filling up over half of our backyard with pallets. And thank goodness Lui is amazing with the jigsaw! We love the opportunity of taking a customer’s idea and creating a unique piece for them.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
For the Love of Pallets creates unique items made from pallet and repurposed wood. Each of our pieces are custom-designed, hand-painted, and/or stained. Since each of our pieces are hand cut (jigsaw) and crafted from quality wood (clean, reclaimed pallet wood), sanded, painted and/or stained, no two pieces are ever identical. We love all of the imperfections or knots found in the wood and do not attempt to cover it up- in fact, we try to highlight them. We celebrate each of our unique pieces.
Because many of our orders are custom made, they all have a special message and meaning to the client and the recipients of the orders. We have created custom pieces to celebrate events, businesses, special occasions, and family keepsakes.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The role of the artist is no longer a traditional studio or gallery platform. Many artists are now using their home spaces and the internet to showcase their works and exemplify the meaning behind their art. For us, it’s using our garage and our “Jackson Pollock” stained kitchen table as preferred work spaces. Lui is a Marine Corps veteran, and we take pride in making items that showcase American patriotism and local pride.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We showcase our items on social media (Facebook, Instagram) and our Etsy Page. FB @fortheloveofpallets IG @1fortheloveofpallets Etsy: etsy.com/shop/1fortheloveofpallets.
We participate in seasonal shows; our next show is Embrace Market on Nov. 4th at Pinnacle High School in North Phoenix. We also donate our custom items to worthy charities and events (Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, University of Arizona Alumni Association, Happily Ever After League).
