Art & Life with Amanda Barcom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Barcom.

Amanda, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have always been a creative person. A crafty eye, if you will. I made things here and there and people were always telling me, “You should sell that, I would buy it!” In 2014, being a stay at home mom of three (all under 6 years old) I really wanted a way that I could stay at home with my babies but also bring something financial to the table so, I turned my dream into a reality! That’s when Fiveheartsco was born and it’s been a blessing ever since!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I mostly make handmade wood signs with some other unique products sprinkled in. I start with blank wood and turn them into the cute signs you will find at my favorite store, GrungyGalz! From start to finish each piece is meticulously thought out. I like to say they are a work of heart! I’m always so inspired by my customers who send me pictures of my pieces in their homes and how much they love them. I hope they know how much it means to me.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Never give up! In the beginning, I had some people in the business say some not so nice things about my work but I didn’t let it bring me down. I worked harder and better and I’m stronger because of it. When I’m having a really busy, rough week in my workshop (aka garage haha) I just remember my customers who leave with a big smile with one of my signs in hand. It’s SO worth it!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Locally in Goodyear at GrungyGalz or on my Instagram @fiveheartsco.
