Tessie Hall shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Tessie, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Playing in tide pools! I don’t get to as much as I like, but I could do this all day. I love being by the ocean, smelling the ocean air and listening to the crashing of the waves. Looking for crabs, starfish, really any kind of ocean creature brings me so much joy to see. Then of course collecting sea shells! I have my collection of ocean treasures on display in my bathroom so I can see them everyday.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! I’m Tessie Hall, and aura photographer and reader and founder of You Aura Star. We are a mobile aura photography and reading company that services all over the phoenix area.
What is an aura reading and how does it work?? Everyone has a frequency that they emit which is called the aura. My sensor picks up your unique energy frequency and turns it into color. Each color has certain characteristics and my job as an aura reader is to interpret and explain what the colors mean.
I love how an aura reading can be so versatile and as fun as a colorful personality test, or we can go deeper into energy work by analyzing the chakras. In my aura readings I try to go over the light and shadow of each color in your auric field so my clients can understand when they’re nearing burn out and I give you practical ways to ground back into your body all using your aura colors. It’s a great way to energetically check in with yourself and get some inner-standing and clarity.
An aura reading also makes a great “add on” to other holistic healing modalities such as reiki, sound healing and yoga. speaking of, I’m currently working on bringing back “Sound Under the Stars”, which is an opportunity for like-minded individuals to come together for a healing sound bath AND aura reading which will include your individual photo plus a group reading, something I’m really excited to start again so be on the lookout for that!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I stopped being a victim and was able to take full accountability for my life, and my choices is a mindset that I won’t ever go back to. Being stuck in a victim mentality feels like everything is happening TO YOU and I was just constantly reacting to everything that would “happen to me”. Once I was able to create some better habits for myself like a decent bedtime and moving my body, I was able to start regulating my nervous system I slowly came out of the stress mode I was stuck in long enough to get some space to objectively look at myself and my life. In that reflective space I was able to give myself the compassion I needed to realize that a lot of my decisions and habits were negatively impacting me. Then I was able to move forward in consciously making decisions that aligned with a different more empowered version of myself. And I keep working towards that everyday.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
For me, suffering was being a slave to my limited mindset and toxic habits. I learned that it can lead to a breaking point or a polarizing moment to “level up”. There was only so much suffering I could handle before I was sick of living with so much unhappiness that I HAD to change something.
There’s also this duality, where as much suffering as you endure, the ability to feel the opposite is also increased. The happy moments of immense gratitude I feel now fills up my entire being and I wouldn’t be able to experience happiness to this extent without the heaviness I’ve lived through.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
There’s this saying, “feel it, to heal it”. It means feel whatever feelings come up for you at any given time instead of pushing them away or ignoring them. And while I agree with this statement, it can also be a double-edged sword. I believe that our feelings are just a way that our body and soul communicates with us, they are signals. On your healing journey though it’s so important to not go into the past to feel and live in those feelings trying to heal them and make them go away. I think reflecting on past triggers or events that are currently coming up in your life today can be beneficial to help reparent yourself through the current situation, but there’s a difference in doing that to reparent yourself next time it comes up so you can keep moving forward.
I say this as someone who has done this and what I learned was that it was a waste of time and only brought me pain. I thought if I could relive and really understand past wounds that they would go away completely. But it’s about understanding what’s happening in the moment and actively choosing to move forward anyways.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely doing what I was born to do. Being an Aura Reader was not on my radar at all! In fact, I only discovered it within the last 5 years and how I ended up here as a career was all through divine guidance and timing.
However, I knew from a young age that I wanted to help others somehow and I was secretly interested in spirituality and “the other side” as a kid so I’m not surprised I ended up here.
I do have this memory of when I was like 11 and someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I remembering answering saying an “astrologer” instead of “astronomer” because I was really into space and stars and I remember laughing at my mistake. Now, being able to see how things played out for me, I really don’t think I misspoke, and this memory makes me laugh.
