We recently had the chance to connect with Robyn Hall and have shared our conversation below.
Robyn, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One thing that brings me joy is my fur babies. My fiancée and I have 3 dogs (Shilo, peep and foxy) and 1 bunny (honeybun).
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Robyn, I’m 23 years old and currently working as a hairstylist at Zolton’s Salon and Day Spa. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a deep passion for the cosmetic industry—whether it’s hair, makeup, or aesthetics, I’ve always been drawn to helping people look and feel their best.
What I love most about being behind the chair is not only creating customized looks that make my clients feel confident, but also the opportunity to connect with so many different people. Building relationships and helping clients express their personal style is what truly inspires me every day.
I specialize in women’s and men’s haircuts, custom hair colors, and perms. I’m always learning, growing, and pushing myself to stay on top of trends and techniques, so I can bring fresh, creative ideas to my clients. Whether it’s a bold color transformation or a classic cut, my goal is to make each person who sits in my chair feel seen, heard, and beautiful.
I’m excited about continuing to grow in this industry, and I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and talented team at Zolton’s. There’s so much more to come, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who has taught me the most about work is my father. Watching his dedication and work ethic growing up made a lasting impact on me. No matter how long or exhausting his day was, he always made time for me and my four siblings. His ability to balance hard work with being a present and supportive parent showed me the true meaning of commitment and responsibility. His example taught me that success isn’t just about what you accomplish professionally—it’s also about how you show up for the people around you. That’s a lesson I carry with me every day in my own career.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely—there have definitely been moments where I questioned continuing in this career. Working behind the chair comes with its fair share of challenges, whether it’s navigating difficult client experiences or the ongoing effort it takes to grow your business. One defining moment for me was being in a salon environment that wasn’t healthy or supportive. I struggled to connect with my coworkers, and over time, that lack of connection and support began to affect my confidence and made me question my ability as a stylist.
It was an incredibly difficult period, but ultimately it taught me the importance of surrounding yourself with the right team and being in a space where you feel valued and inspired. That experience pushed me to seek out a better environment—like the one I have now—and I’m so grateful I didn’t give up. It reminded me why I started in the first place and made me stronger both personally and professionally.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
One thing I believe to be true—though it’s not something you can easily prove—is that hurt people hurt people. In the beauty industry, while there’s so much creativity and connection, there can also be negativity that affects you on a deeper level. One of the most difficult things I’ve personally experienced is gossip. Whether it’s another stylist speaking poorly about you or your work, or a client leaving a negative review, those moments can be really disheartening.
I’ve learned that often, those actions come from a place of someone else’s insecurity or pain. While that doesn’t make it right, understanding that has helped me grow thicker skin and stay focused on my own journey. I remind myself that my purpose is to uplift and empower others—and I try to lead with kindness, even in tough situations.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely—I genuinely get excited to go to work every day! There’s something incredibly fulfilling about being behind the chair and having the opportunity to transform someone’s look and boost their confidence. Hair transformations, in particular, are what truly light me up. I get so caught up in the creativity and the joy of seeing a client’s reaction that I often forget to take before-and-after photos—which is always a sign I’m fully in the moment and loving what I do.
Those moments remind me why I chose this career. Whether it’s a dramatic color change, a fresh cut, or helping someone feel like the best version of themselves, it’s an energy that keeps me inspired and excited to keep growing in this industry.
